30 mL or 60 mL: how the Kapow Salt bottles are split

Puff'Dis carries Kapow Salt in two bottle sizes, 30 mL and 60 mL. Every 30 mL listing has a strength selector on its product page, while the 60 mL listings, Cloudy and Classic, show none. Before you order a 60 mL bottle, check the nicotine strength in that listing's product details, because the page won't ask you to pick one.

Cloudy is sold in both the 30 mL and the 60 mL size. If you already know Cloudy, you only need to choose a volume (and, on the 30 mL bottle, a strength).

12 mg/mL and 20 mg/mL across the 30 mL range

The 30 mL Kapow Salt bottles come in two numeric nicotine strengths, 12 mg/mL and 20 mg/mL. Most 30 mL listings offer both, but not every one does. At least one comes only in 20 mg/mL and Bold 50, so check the selector before you assume a 12 mg/mL version exists.

According to Health Canada, the Nicotine Concentration in Vaping Products Regulations have set a maximum of 20 mg/mL for vaping products sold in Canada since July 2021 (About vaping). That puts the 20 mg/mL option at the legal ceiling, and 12 mg/mL below it.

If you already vape salt liquid, start by matching the strength you use now. Cloudy has a 30 mL listing and a 60 mL listing under the same name, so check both the volume and the mg/mL figure on the option you selected before you add it to your cart.

Reading the Bold 50 option against the 20 mg/mL limit

The Bold 50 option appears on some of the 30 mL Kapow Salt listings, including Cloudy. Federal regulations prohibit packaging and selling vaping products that display a statement showing a nicotine concentration above 20 mg/mL (Nicotine Concentration in Vaping Products Regulations, SOR/2021-123). Health Canada also states that every legal vaping product has a maximum nicotine concentration of 20 mg/mL. So the "50" in the option name cannot be read as a concentration of 50 mg/mL.

Labels must display a nicotine concentration statement in mg/mL, in English and in French (Health Canada, Vaping product safety). Rely on that mg/mL statement on the label, not on the option name. If you're unsure which strength a Bold 50 bottle contains, read the product listing before you choose, and check the label's mg/mL statement when the bottle arrives.

Nicotine salt and freebase, as Health Canada describes them

Health Canada describes freebase nicotine as nicotine dissolved in a liquid mixture, typically propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerin, with other chemicals such as flavouring ingredients. Nicotine salt liquids contain the same kinds of ingredients. Health Canada's definition separates them by one feature: in a salt liquid, the mixture is chemically adjusted to be weakly acidic.

Handling and storing a bottle of nicotine liquid

Health Canada states that vaping liquid containing nicotine is poisonous and that young children are more susceptible to harm from nicotine. Containers of vaping liquid with nicotine must have a child-resistant closure and a toxic hazard symbol. Child-resistant does not mean child-proof, so close the bottle securely after each refill.

• Store bottles out of sight and reach of children and pets.
• Keep liquid in a cool, dry place where it cannot be confused for food, drinks or medicine.
• Wash your hands immediately after handling vaping liquid, or wear gloves.
• Never mix household chemical products or additives into vaping liquid.
